Lori Nordstrom

I began in photography like many do… photographing my kids! I loved shooting in black and white, as often as I could, and soon began experimenting with different papers and mediums for hand-painting the black and white images. I fell in love with this style, and it’s still something I’m known for today, over 10 years later.

I grew up in Waco, Texas, so Iowa has been a big change for me. The three greatest joys in life are my kids – Joshua, Jayci, and Jaxon.

How did you get started in the business? Who helped/guided/mentored you?
“I started in the business photographing my kids (mom with a camera!) I did work for a studio for a year and was introduced to many of the photographers I still love and admire… Tim Kelly, Tim and Beverly Walden, Darton Drake… Bill Sorensen has been a big inspiration to me on the business and marketing side. Joyce Tenneson is my favorite photographer! But I draw inspiration from business that market well and have excellent customer service!:)

From Lori:
“ If you’re thinking about coming to another After Dark Event, remember 5 hour energy drinks??:DI think before any educational experience you should take some time to write down the things that you need to hear. You will get what you need when you are ready for it, and the first step of being ready and open is to define it and write it down. List 10 things that you are struggling with or want to improve on or want to try. If you’ve never been to After Dark Before, there is so much going on at AD and you will want to come again to keep practicing and building on what you’ve learned. ‘Follow the Golden Rule : “Do unto others….” Be nice. Give everything. Love unconditionally.’
