valerie tabor smith is one of the world’s most published children’s photographers. Little did she realize when she set a goal to have a single image published as a greeting card that her dream would evolve into her images gracing thousands of products from calendars to baby bedding, greeting cards to a little girls clothing line in nine different countries. Things really took off after her 2001 Heavenly Angels calendar with American Greetings became a best seller.

In 2007 Valerie became friends with Julie Klaasmeyer and together they are developing two lines of images for licensing. One is with newborns called “Cherished Babes” and the other is “Baby Divas” which has already started to take off in Europe.

Valerie’s passion is children. She hopes her pictures bring a little more love into the world.

How did you get started in the business? Who helped/guided/mentored you?
“I would have to mostly thank my husband for buying me my first camera years ago and encouraging me to follow my dreams.

I look up to Julie Klaasmeyer, Lori Nordstrom, I love their work and the heart they bring to their imagery. Cecily Mary Barker and Beatrix Potter for following their dreams and touching the hearts of so many . Also, Joyce Wilson.

My son and all young children inspire me.

An a-ha monment for me was when i realized that i could control natural light. For me this meant less bothersome equiptment and more focus on set design.”

From Valerie:
‘If you follow the dreams of your heart you will always have what you need to achieve them. Believe in yourself. Photographers are here to help us “see”. You have a great purpose.’
