Julie Klaasmeyer owns and operates j.klaasmeyer portrait design, a 9,000 sq ft boutique studio located in Paola, Kansas. She combined this passion for art with her love of photography and opened her doors nine years ago. Julie is dedicated to providing only the finest for her clients and consistently re-develops her product line to offer new and fresh art for them as well. She uses primarily natural light and loves to incorporate digital art and image design into her work flow. Julie has taught classes and workshops all over the country and has given programs for PPA and WHCC, her photo lab. Her images have been displayed in PPA Loan collections over the years, PPA magazine, WHCC photo booth, GW Moulding, and many background companies as well. Julie has earned several Fuji Masterpiece awards, Kodak Gallery awards, 10 judges ribbons, and was named 2009 Kodak Photographer to watch.

How did you get started in the business? Who helped/guided/mentored you?
“I started photography professionally about 12 years ago. RZ 67 and a light kit and a dark room. I learn by trial and error and learn just as much from failure as i do from success. I am dedicated and will not give up until i get it right. I have gathered so much information and support over the years from forums and workshops with mentors who really care and love to share for the very reason of raising the industry.

An a-ha monment for me was when i realized that i could control natural light. For me this meant less bothersome equiptment and more focus on set design.”

From Julie:
“I love newborn art, for example kelley ryden, tracy raver, carrie sandoval, brit woodal, can not get enough of newborns done well. If you’re thinking about coming to another After Dark Event, remember they are different everytime. We all need to approach our business refreshed and inspired occasionally. Same ol’, same ol’ is not working for anyone in the industry anymore. If you’ve never been to After Dark Before, Rest. get lot’s of rest before you come;-). ‘Life is so hard, but it is soooooooooooooooooooooo good.’
